Truths We Must Face
by Joseph Barrett
Issue 95 - November 7, 2007

Truth 1. Social issues will not be important in the 2008 election.

Truth 2. There is no viable Conservative Movement. There is not one conservative group that has the knowledge or where-with-all to carry a Swing Precinct in a Swing or Battleground State. Even Virginia has become a battleground state.

Truth 3. 21% of all Americans have walked away from this President and his party. They voted for him in 2004. Poof. Now they are gone.

Truth 4. The Reagan Revolution was a one night stand. No one tired to make it durable. No one thought to get a ring. People now read into it what they want to read into it. The House of Bush walked away from Ronald Reagan as soon as they were sworn in. Many disaffected Democrats and independents who voted for RR walked away as a result.

Truth 5. To win, the GOP has to fashion a winning message with a strong personality to re-attract non-Evangelical Christians, Catholics, and the Warrior Class without walking away from its base.

Truth 6. The Fox network is the mouth piece not of conservatism but for the Rudy Campaign.

Truth 7. Christian political activists have no moral authority outside their own tribal encampment

Truth 8. The veteran groups carry no weight because they can not even send out a questionnaire to candidates let alone endorse one. Having 1,000 vets attend a national meeting to hear a politician is not as effective as putting 100 vets on the streets working door to door for someone.

Truth 9. The people who fear and loathe Hillary Clinton are not as organized as the people who love her.

Truth 10. Politics is a tale told by an idiot full of sound and fury signifying nothing. If there are indeed tides running in the affairs of men and states then someone better get down to the beaches and help catch the one that is now leaving.
