Need To Lose?
By Carol Moore

I just read your "Need To Lose," by Alan Caruba article and was impressed that you have stated well my thoughts on the matter.

I considered myself a Democrat (as my parents before me were), but began to rethink that decision when the Party wanted to ban firearms, which would eventually change or weaken our Constitution.

A co-worker at that time told me that "it was a long time ago when the Constitution was written, people then had more need for firearms for self-protection as we lived in a less civilized society. The right to bear arms is out of date and should probably be done away with now".

If we consider any bit of truth to that statement, how do we do away with or weaken any of our Constitutional rights without greatly weakening them all? That is what I asked her, along with, would that not create a dangerous precedent? Next, someone would say that our right of peaceful assembly has grown outdated; after all, back then, the population was much less, automobiles unknown, commuters far, far less. Now in modern times, protesters, and any people peacefully assembled can cause traffic back-up, detours, slow-downs in workers entering/exiting workplaces, make sidewalks crowded, etc. Therefore, perhaps we should do away with that right, as well.

And while we are at it, do we really need some of these other rights? Eventually, we would have none left or only such weakened ones that our freedom would be only such as the government saw fit to grant us.

Today, I am a senior citizen. I voted when I first came of age and have voted ever since. I find anymore, though, that I have become an Independent, or perhaps what is sometimes called a "Swing-Voter". This is because both parties have let down the ordinary American citizen, pretty much equally and I am rapidly becoming very "Bi-Partisan", I think the word may be, as I am beginning to hate both parties equally.

After all, they have about equally sold-out American citizens and our country. Illegal aliens are pandered to instead of being jailed and/or deported. They receive little or no punishment for crimes they commit in addition to entering our nation unlawfully. They receive benefits from tax funds illegally that American citizens have paid into for needy and deserving American citizens, and better medical care without cost than most citizens, free education for their children at the expense of our own.

The math: one class in English, one class in Spanish equals half the Teaching time for American children that they once received. Their misdeeds are often not even acknowledged; overcrowded house? If it is Americans, enforce local law; if it is Hispanic or other foreigners, ignore there being 31 people in one 3 to 4 bedroom home. Here in Manassas, VA, I have heard of the County Health Department moving out a few only in extreme cases, such as over 40 living in a small 3 bedroom home with a basement. One long-time resident moved to another county though she loved her home because Mexican men next door believed it was fine to urinate outdoors on their tiny lot where her 9-year old daughter could see perfectly clear. They put up a tall stockade fence and then the Mexicans went out of their way to throw trash and garbage over it into her yard.

We have the beginnings of some hope to enforce laws and take back our county. I see articles sometimes insulting "Liberals", and sometimes articles griping at "Conservatives". Unfortunately, it is very hard to tell the difference. A number of people I know think Congressman Ron Paul may be the best of the candidates for president. I rather like the little bit I have heard from him. It is unfortunate that a successful candidate nearly HAS to be rich, we need many, many changes.
