Election Good News?

Editor: All I have to say about “Election Good News” is, Way to Lead. Allen Godin

Editor: I rarely respond to columnists except Bill Murchison-and in his case it is usually over lunch as we are friends and live near one another. However, your piece “Election Good News” perfectly summarized my own thoughts on the matter, only better. Not to get too pointed about it, but the Republican Congress, while it had many good men and women, on the whole was unworthy, bad for the country and an embarrassment. If the Democrats were not so off-the-map radical, their margin of victory yesterday would have been even higher. Maybe we are now liberated in a way. Cheers, Joseph Sullivan

Editor: Great commentary today in “Election Good News.” I have been fielding questions from reporters as to the fate of conservatism in America and I told them it's alive and well, now that the GOP has lost control of Congress and can take the time to come to its senses. Alan Caruba

Editor: With so many broken hearts this morning, any suggestions regarding “Election Good News” will be anticipated with bated breath! Good luck! Alex Pinsdorf

Editor: Yeah, that “Election Good News” made me feel better! Dotti Antis

Editor: I'm glad the NeoCon Republican Party lost! They have followed King George II down a path of self-destruction. It's time for the Reagan Conservatives to rise back up and take the leadership reins! Let the Democrats screw-up for a couple of years. At least they'll show the Republicans how to govern and how to make your own "rogue" party members toe-the-party-line! Tom Flores

Editor: Yes, those real conservatives taught those lousy Republicans a lesson by not voting. Now, instead of getting some of our issues passed, we can wait out two, 6 or perhaps 12 years of Liberal rule--and get nothing. Personally, I admire President Bush. Did he give me everything I had hoped for, No. But, he sure as hell is better than W.J. Clinton! In the real world you shoot for the moon with the full realization that you may only get a piece. Without question, a lesson will be taught. Now it is my fear that the Liberals will be the teachers! Great idea in “Election Good News.” However, in reality we will be dead and gone well before we see it. Fractionalize the Republicans, and the Democrats will win, win, win! Too bad conservatives have become greedy. We were at least getting a part of the pie. Now it is my fear we will get the whole pie--HUMBLE PIE! Randy Knack, Amsterdam, NY

Editor: I am from Georgia, where we re-elected our Governor Sonny Perdue. I woke up at 3:00 in the morning to listen to the result of the election. I was sad to know that we lost 28 seats in the House and 6 in the Senate. However, deep down in my heart, I was very disappointed with all that went on within the Republican Party. Immigration policy is for one. The government has spent so much money but the control of the borders is not being taken care of properly. The list can go on. Somehow, I felt that our government failed us miserly and deserved what its got, although I could never bring myself voting for Democrats because of its moral issues. After reading your “Election Good News”, I feel better. You are exactly right. Hopefully, all new elected officials are moderate enough to work with the rest of the Republicans, who truly believe and put the interest of the country first and foremost. May God bless you & yours, BaoHanh Nguyen

Editor: All I can say to “Election Good News” is, LET'S HOPE! I don't think the Republicans are smart enough to dump the Arlen Specters, Trent Lotts, Orrin Hatchs, Olympia Snowes, John McCains, etc., that are the antithesis of what Ronald Reagan stood for and had the GUTS to fight for! If they do... the sky's the limit! I'm not holding my breath as the GOP hasn't listened to me since Bush "41" said "Read My Lips!" Sincerely, R. H. Irish, Edmond, OK

Editor: Thank you for “Election Good News.” It was awesome. Some thoughts I knew were there deep down, somewhere; I thank you for articulating them and covering them so well. It is a blessing in disguise. Let the Republicans not fail to see this and not use the opportunity wisely. We have no reason to moan or feel disparaged. But, I would say, we must be ever wise as serpents and shrewd in planning the tactics to win big in 2008, ever mindful of our opponents’ ultimate plans and stay one step ahead of them, never trusting them to be allies. Thanks for giving us an upper! Judy Novotny

Editor: I just read your article, "Election Good News." I certainly do like your push for conservatism. I have never been a third party advocate. I have come to the place now that I think it is time. Both parties have some conservatives, but both parties have enough Liberals (Progressives) to thwart the workings of the Conservative in their parties. It is time for a third party, the Conservative Party, reaching out to both parties and calling all Conservatives to unite together. Don't you agree? Sincerely, Moody Roberts

Editor: You are so right in "Election Good News" and our members of Congress better get it. Thanks, Mary Ann Willborn

Editor: Your analysis that the electoral results are good news for US conservatives is insane. It is a mirror image of the Dean/Pelosi double talk that has looked at any bad news for Americans as good news for their political aspirations. Tens of thousands of innocents will die in the coming months as the US abandons allies. Millions more will live under increasingly repressive regimes. History will reflect yesterday's results as the signal for our enemies to accelerate their attacks on our allies and serve as a warning to our friends that they should fend for themselves. Chris Harley, Piedmont, CA

Editor: I agree 1000 percent with “Election Good News”. That's why I voted 3rd party for the first time across the board. The only exception was for Republican judges here in Texas. I plan to support and push the Constitution Party the next two years. I doubt the Republican Party has the guts to do what has to be done over the next two years and rebuild to get my support. Ken Lowder, Baytown, TX

Editor: After reading your article “Election Good News” I have a glimmer of hope. However, it would seem that with the election outcome it is just the beginning of Armageddon in America! Perhaps I'm very naive but it amazes me that our citizens don't seem to recognize some very serious issues affecting our children & Grandchildren in the future. Thank you for your astute observations. I hope that you are correct.

Editor: Conservatism is moribund, and for the moment, dead as a doornail. George W. Bush has indicated that he will give Democrats whatever they want, continuing his history of extreme generosity to his enemies. The Republicans are talking about "getting along" and "bipartisanship"--NONSENSE! The Democrats have been so strong, even when out of power, because they DEMANDED power, and came out six-guns a-blazin', win or lose. You've got it backwards. Conservatism is all but dead for the moment, while Republicans chase approval ratings and warm, sunny headlines in the Times and Post (no need to tell you which Times and Post). Moreover, Democrats always close ranks. They will vote for the ultra-liberal agenda no matter what their personal beliefs. Remember the conservative Dixiecrats, who went along with the Great Society just to further their own political careers? How soon we do forget. I have very little faith for the future. There is no Reagan anywhere, just a bunch of weaklings who just want to be loved and get re-elected. The state of Conservatism is grim: we are about to lose a war, spending is about to go through the roof, and the President is just itching to collaborate with his political enemies to create 12 million new Democrats with an amnesty bill. You'd better go back to the drawing board. Contrary to “Election Good News” conservatism is dead. Mark Petrina, Benicia, CA

Editor: I feel a little better after “Election Good News,” but not much. I can live with losing the seats but what was so discouraging yesterday was the support of the issue on the ballot. Albert E. Valko, ToolMatics, Inc.

Editor: The Bushes are too nice to win in politics. Both H and W are nice guys but they don't understand the rules of the game. When a Democrat stabbed them in the back with a lie, they just made some inane comment about bi-partisanship, so the Democrat just looked for a bigger knife and the voters say, 'Well it must be true because he didn't deny it." All three Bush elections were won on Ronald Reagan's coat-tails, not on a "Kinder and Gentler Administration," nor on "Compassionate Conservatism". The voters need to be educated on the basics of Free Enterprise in a simple way that both entertains and is easy to repeat to their peers, and why no other system of government can provide as well. When most conservatives talk to voters they use words and phrases that blow right past all but other conservatives. EXAMPLE: Raising the minimum wage gives a brief relief, increased spending, then causes inflation which puts the wage earner in even worse condition. Bush just announced at the worst possible time that Donald Rumsfeld will leave. It would be much better for conservatism and the country if Bush left, and let Cheney finish the job. Best Regards, John D. Watts

Editor: Nice job in “Election Good News.” I would love to see you interviewed on TV with this message. FOX at 6 PM would be my choice of venue. Conservatives need to see and believe this positive message. Best, Rich Byman

Editor: Thanks for the perspective in “Election Good News.” It wouldn't be so scary if we were not living in such dangerous times. I do not think we can afford to lose 2 years in dealing with the terrorists. Amy

Editor: I reckon in politics there is always a silver lining in every cloud. I like the idea that now the Liberals will have to have something to show for their 2 years of power in 2008 - or arm Conservative candidates with what they need to win. The results are voters saying they dislike the corruption - in a nutshell. They love their sons and daughters abroad doing a fine job even if they don't fully understand how long Islamo-fascism will be around and Iraq. Can we go out into the world and be its champion? "Absolute power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely". This election and your words on how it provides balance and time to reflect assure the world we will be there when all hell brakes loose. Our troops believe they are doing a good and noble thing - and they are. You can risk your life for that--standing up for those unable to stand up for themselves - that's right and just. Liberals have a problem with valuing people and life and that it costs a high price – it’s evident in all their BS. They live like parasites on the poor by stirring up feelings of being and going without and then accuse Conservatives of "politics of fear!" Ha! They invented it. Gotta go hear what Rush has to say today. William M. Lasko, Hoosier Heavy Log & Timber Works, Inc., Martinsville, Indiana

Editor: Count me in to the message of your “Election Good News.” I'm not giving up now. Gregg Steighner, Cabot, PA
