Editor: Thank you, thank you, thank you for your editorial “Government Gasoline Help”! Finally, you have given us a very comprehensive article telling EXACTLY why and how these gas shortages and high prices came about. Blame obviously goes first to Congress, then to the environmentalists - but of course the "drive-by media" thinks we don't need to know the truth. Now the next step--how do we turn this around? Tell all our friends, talk shows, letters to our legislators and editors! We need to hold the guilty accountable. I'm going to memorize these facts in your article so that the next time a friend blames the evil oil companies I can leap up with REAL FACTS! THANKS AGAIN, Janell, Plano TX

Editor: Government Help on Gas Prices? There are no price gouging oil companies and a "windfall profits" tax on oil companies would be the stupidest thing Congress could do to solve the problem. Tell Congress, especially Republicans, that government should stay out of the oil business, which it does not understand, and business in general, which it doesn't like. Windfall profit taxes, if they were a good idea, should be put on the high tech companies first because their profits are 4 to 5 times higher than the oil companies. Conservatives need to remain conservative and Republicans need to stand up for what is right with America and right for America and quit whining and trying to sound like Democrats, who have no plan except to be negative about everything America stands for. Republicans and conservatives in general should go back to talking about the greatness of America and point out the lies by Democrats and the media about the war on terror, illegal immigration, gasoline prices, religion, and everything else they are against. They are anti-business, anti-success, anti-profits, and a growing number of them are downright anti-American and this should be pointed out from now until the November elections! Dick & Gloria Hollis, Bartlesville, OK.

Editor: The best government help would be to let us drill in ANWR and offshore U.S.--like the rest of the world is doing. Sam Curtis, Midland TX

Editor: Government "HELP" is not needed. The government's proposed $100.00 rebate plan is an election year ploy that will backfire. Democrats will kill the GOP at the polls in November by citing oil company profits ($ billions) and linking them with "Bush tax cuts for the wealthy". The price of gasoline is high because: 1) domestic production is dangerously low and America's dependence on Middle Eastern oil and other imports is dangerously high; 2) unnecessary regulations have halted the building of new domestic refineries for more than 30 years; 3) the U.S. economy, and that of most U.S. trade partners -- all of which are dependent on oil -- are booming--demand for oil is high, while supply is lagging; 4) politicians like Ted Kennedy, Hillary Clinton and Chuck Schumer -- and every other liberal in Congress, have continually voted AGAINST increasing production of domestic oil for over 20 years. I think everyone understands this except the politicians! I'm not sure where the big disconnect is occurring for the White House, but apparently even Newt G. can't get through to them -- maybe they need to get out of DC once in a while. Editor: Great article on “Government Help on Gas Prices”? It just proves again that our life, liberty and pursuit of happiness are in peril when Congress is in session. Dick Haynes, Piqua, OH

Editor: I agree with the general slant of “Government Help on Gas Prices”, but the last sentence is not the way to get the politicians attention. We should in fact use the gas to drive to the polls and replace the idiots that don't understand economics. It really doesn't take a genius to solve this issue. We should use a common sense approach and do what is right, for the majority, not the few. This means oil companies, liberal tree hugger's and the like. I, and I get the sense many Americans are growing tired of the minority deciding what is best for the majority. If the elected representatives can't or won't do the job we elected them for, them we need to step up and replace them with people that will. This also means replacing activist judges that decide that they have the authority to override congress. This is the reason people don't like lawyers, they want to rule the world by using the law. Common sense be damned. Hal McKoon, Chino Hills, CA

Editor: In your “Government Help On Gas Prices,” you neglect to mention that the U.S. Government gets twice as much profit from gas prices as the oil companies. The oil companies get 9 cents, which is used to pay shareholders and technology while the federal government gets 18 cents for doing nothing. Interesting, Connie Booth

Editor: Thanks for an excellent web site. Can CBS Be Saved? by Nathan Tabor is a great article and correctly highlights the reason network news, and the liberal media in general, are losing their audience. Thank God for Fox. We no longer watch network news or CNN, nor do we subscribe to the Dallas Morning News or Ft. Worth Star-Telegram--all relentlessly liberal. But the liberal media remains in denial. They will consider ANY explanation for their plummeting audience, while ignoring the actual cause. Sincerely Yours, Buddy Saunders, Lone Star Comics, Arlington, TX 76010

Editor: Regarding Nathan Tabor’s “Can CBS Be Saved?” I hope not! I wouldn't walk across the street to listen to perky Katie and I won't be watching her on CBS. Give me Brit Hume any day! Connie Hester

Editor: I personally believe Katy Couric will do more harm than good for CBS. Many “cheerleaders” would view her as an embarrassment. She sold herself to the liberals to gain in the media. The ratings do not seem better either. Let’s see what happens. John A. Miller

Editor: Roy Innis’ “EU Malaria Policy Kills” is a good article. DDT has been unjustly vilified for too long. I'm glad the U.S. relaxed on this issue, and hope the European Union will follow. This has been a travesty, another example of junk science killing millions, so some willingly ignorant people could feel as though they were somehow superior. Thank You, Gerald Hyde

Editor: Look; the problem that Lisa Fabrizio articulates in “Fear of United 93” is far bigger than the film "United 93." At "ground zero," the World Trade Center site in NYC, every effort has been made to deny 9/11. Using the Vietnam Memorial as their model, and their defense, they, the clueless, self-indulgent, powers that be for the site have sought to give us a judgment free "Memorial site." Not "WTC Memorial site" or "9/11 WTC Memorial site" - just "Memorial site." There is only one way that America will get the 9/11 memorial it deserves at the WTC site: Demand it. 9/11 changed everything; they want to change it back. Michael Burke, brother, FDNY Capt. William F. Burke, Jr., Eng. 21

Editor: “Fear of United 93” by Lisa Fabrizio makes it clear, as sad as it is, that the left now totally represents the Democratic Party. Lisa’s comments reflect in my mind the demise of the Democrat Party to darn near terrorist sympathizers. The movie unfortunately in far too many ways portrayed the Arabs also as victims. Paul Rinderle, Fairfax Va.

Editor: The point made by Art Bowen in “Why Bad Health” needs to be presented visually to the public. The move from group plans to private plans and the hidden costs to insured and insurer needs to be shown in graphs if the general voting public is to get a grip on this. Stephen Hiatt

Editor: Regarding your “Readers on Immigration” letters section, we get repeated calls from the Republican National Committee for campaign donations. We are now telling them that we, our extended families and many of our friends have decided: No more political contributions until the Border is sealed. If more people would send that message and the politicians thought their money was drying up, the border would be quickly sealed. Dennis Selover, Las Vegas, NV

Editor: I am more disgusted with the GOP and especially the program President Bush has planned for illegal immigrants. Neither party has the will to tackle this serious problem that was caused by Washington. Still we keep voting those slippery eels back into office. That is OUR FAULT. Before any deals are worked out with the millions of illegals who are already here and flocking over our unprotected borders on a daily basis the only thing that will get this headed into the right direction is FIRST CLOSE THE BOARDERS and then the willie nillies in Washington can use some of their creative ability (haha) to address those who are already here. Before that, the rest is useless. In closing, vote the bums out. Sumner Thompson, Scarborough, Maine

Editor: Granted illegal immigration is a problem. But this may be minor if we understand what's going on South of Mexico. Hugo Chavez, "elected" as dictator of Venezuela, wants to bring back the Bolivarian Revolution uniting Valenzuela, Ecuador, Columbia and Panama under one communist alliance. Since President Carter along with Congress gave Panama to China, immigration may be a comparatively easy task. M. Tracy
