Editor: Thanks for the great article on “Should Conservatives Get Over It?” The obvious question is: What principled conservative can we elect in 2008? Sincerely, Ross Little, Jr., Republican National Committeman, Louisiana
Editor: Regarding “Should Conservatives Get Over It”--Donald Devine for President! William Lauderback
Editor: Great insight as usual in “Should Conservatives Get Over It?” I've personally informed the RNC that until the elected Republicans get their act together again, I will do two things. 1. I will refrain from putting one cent into the RNC. 2. While I will vote Republican, I will not vote the whole ticket, and I will look at each Republican candidate’s voting record. If I agree that they have served my conservative interests, I'll vote on them. If not, no vote. In addition to those two things, I've also informed them that if John McCain becomes the Republican candidate for president, I'll sit the vote out. Thanks for the good read. Bill Sparkman
Editor: Great article on “Should Conservatives Get Over It.” Michael Sanera, John Locke Institute
Editor: I am a strong conservative Republican, and I couldn't disagree with you more in your column about conservatives getting over it. This is the time we need to stick together. If you think Pelosi and Reid in the leadership is the answer to punish conservatives, I can't get on that band wagon. That's just foolishness. Cut off your nose to spite your face isn't a good strategy. I, for one, will be proud to go to the polls in November and vote Republican. Whatever the problem, Democrats are not the answer! Christine E. Cotton, Omaha, Nebraska
Editor: Sure, conservatives should just shut their mouth and be happy with what we have--a moderate, weak, neo-con president and a corrupt, power-hungry, sell-out Congress. DB
Editor: While I would dearly love to see a "principled conservative" be on the 2008 ballot for president I can count well enough to know that it is not going to happen within the GOP and not even a topic of discussion within the DNC. We are simply too few, or rather too few of us vote. We can not win without the moderate conservatives and they can not win without us. If either side stays home out of protest, the liberals will manufacture votes in their habitual lockstep and carry the Fall 2006 and 2008 elections and that would be the worst possible outcome. I would dearly love for you to come back in after the 2008 elections and tell me how wrong I was but I might as well hope for the tooth fairy. For now, I can't even see any "principled conservatives" on the horizon as viable candidates with even a minute chance of winning. Regards, William Engle, Slidell, LA
Editor: Great stuff on “Should Conservatives Get Over It’’? Allbest, Neal
Editor: Fabulous article on “Should Conservatives ‘Get Over It?” Common sense should prevail. Maureen McGuinness
Editor: It is obvious that the conservatives are taken for granted by the Republican Party. Immigration, profligate spending, massive increases in the size of government, a severely broken Intelligence system, a Department of State that has been co opted by the foggy bottom globalists ,Republican incumbents who are leaderless, incompetent or RINO's have turned the party into a group indistinguishable from the Democrats. Support of liberal Republican's like Specter by Santorum and Bush is an affront to anyone with conservative values. A weak politically-correct president who has yet to use the power of the veto, who has bunkered up and has failed miserably to defend any of his decisions. Even with Tony Snow on board he still is unable to connect with the electorate who want nothing more than to be lead. The concept that we have nowhere else to go is incorrect. We don't have to go to the polls on election day, we do not have to put up signs, send letters to the editor or give money to the RNC. The "Country Club Republicans" are making major inroads into the upper echelons of the party while the general conservative nature of the electorate is being ignored by our elected aristocracy. If my circle of friends is an example we are not coming out in '06 and if McCain or one of his clones are put up in '08 ditto. President Bush is killing us. Remember Reagan took Bush I as his VP candidate to get the CC Republicans and we now have that group being reinforced by his son. It may be time to seriously plan a third party, The Conservative Party. Sincerely, Charles E. Umhey Jr., MD, Turah, MT
Editor: Are you sure you want to hand over the reins to the Dems and risk ANOTHER FORTY YEARS before the Republicans get control again? We'll probably BOTH be dead by then. Stanley Jackson, Lawton, Oklahoma
Editor: I have to admit I am not very happy with our party. Is McCain going to run for president on the Democrat or Republican ticket?? It looks as if he can't move without Kennedy's ok. His legislative activity seems to be on the Democratic side and his proposals are always co-sponsored with Kennedy. The liberal and moderate Republicans are dividing the party. I have felt guilty for not sending contributions to the GOP. Logic steps in and asks the question: If you are going to send a contribution, send it to the Democrats. The 11 moderates and liberals are going to vote with them. Is the Republican Party going to go into a tail spin and loose the majority? They have lost their backbone and are going to put it on President Bush. The reality is, they don't have what it takes to stand for the conservative core beliefs and want to pull the Democratic curtain closed and put it on the “oh well” generation. Robert T. Jaramillo
Editor: Regarding conservatives getting over it, the GOP may go down in flames in November, but at least the ones who oppose the cave in to illegal alien lobbies will remain in office. I don't think anyone cares what Fred Barnes says, because no one actually reads The Weekly Standard, except for the D.C. insiders who've squandered the voter's trust and have lost the public's support. He can appear on all the cable TV shows he wants, but his main audience is now senile elderly people in nursing homes who probably think he's a game show host. Brian Lynch
Editor: In regard to conservatives getting over it, I just returned a RNC fundraiser letter today with a big donation of $0. In the margins I wrote the names of each Republican Senator that voted for the Immigration Bill. Sincerely, Dorothy Osborne, TN
Editor: Regarding Paul Weyrich’s solution to immigration, unfortunately, Senator Alexander is mistaken in thinking any Bill to assimilate Mexicans will work. Yes, proximity to Mexico is one reason; secondly, many in Mexico believe the southwest portion of our country belongs to Mexico. Nothing short of three walls, and firm immigration laws, allowing only well educated to immigrate legally to America will save our country. The well educated immigrants instantly see the need and benefits to assimilation; to the others, the dream of a homeland which is hospitable to their native tongue is a link that will not go away. Congressman Tom Tancredo can do the job, and a few others. Regards, Larry Tidrick, Elk Grove Village, Il.
Editor: Paul Weyich’s article on Senator Lamar Alexander’s proposal sounds great but I really do not want anyone to be granted citizenship if they crossed illegally. We must control our border. After that we must and should find and imprison all employers who hire them knowingly. Corporate America is just trying to get by on cheap slave labor and Americans will take those jobs as soon as they pay an American wage. I for one am willing to pay a little more for fresh fruits and vegetables. But, if all else fails then this Oath is a good idea. Audrey Johnson
Editor: I like Alexander's proposal and he certainly understands the difference between immigrants 100 years ago and today's situation which many seem to overlook. "Becoming an American" and just living here and "using our opportunities" make a world of difference. We cannot become a culture divided. We are what we are and must remain or grow weakened on the inside. With opportunities come responsibilities and commitments. Thank you for this info. Gerry Gennoe
Editor: Regarding Dennis Avery's piece “Time Misses Climate,” he’s got it right. The mean temperature of a planet is determined by solar radiance and the distance of the planet from it. All the ants on the surface can do by changing the insulative properties of their atmosphere is change the diurnal variance. See http://cosy.com/views/warm.htm . Bob Armstrong
Editor: Thanks for the excellent article by Larry Eastland on “Rebuilding New Orleans.” I do not believe we should rebuild New Orleans at all. It is crazy to build a city below sea level that also is too full of crime, drugs etc.
Editor: My question to Mr. Eastland is, “How do you re-build a slum? What government specs are used?” John Sours
Editor: I agree with some of George Reisman’s points but being an autoworker for 10 years at Chrysler, I've seen the good the bad and the ugly. If you could see how things are run in some of these plants you wonder how these cars get built. To break it down, when things are good the big 3 spend like drunken sailors, when they are bad they try to back-peddle and cut costs. The bottom line is the big three never plan for a rainy day. When things are good they never plan for the future till it too late. So I think both sides are to blame--the UAW and the Big Three automakers. Sincerely yours, Scott M.
Editor: I really enjoy the Conservative Battleline Online articles that I receive. However, there is one element missing that, if included, would make those articles much better: including the dates on which the articles were written or first published. E.g., in today's articles is one by Paul Weyrich in which he refers to an immigration proposal written by Senator Alexander; however, there is no date on the article. It would be a great help to have such articles dated. Regards, and thanks for sending out so many interesting pieces. Mike Thompson
Editor: I love the idea of "Conservative Battleline Online" and have distributed your magazine among my groups. Keep up the great work. Your magazine is fantastic, giving us a real public voice. Thank you. Best Regards, E. D. Lopez
