Editor: Hooray! Your essay on “Cartoon Profanity” was spot-on. Best, Brent Bozell. President Media Research Institute.
Editor: I want to thank you for the most brilliant commentary on the Danish cartoons and freedom of speech, “’Cartoon Profanity.” Not all speech is praiseworthy. The Danish cartoon was designed to mock the Muslims but rather than end the insult at the Danish border, the European press, by republishing the cartoons demonstrated the contempt that Europeans have for Arabs, Iranians, Asians and Africans. Yes, I defend the Danish publication's freedom of speech and those other European newspapers that piled on by republishing the cartoons. And yes, by doing so we have the right to say they are mocking Mohamed and the Muslim religion. Tim Sullivan
Editor: “Cartoon Profanity” was a good article and very thoughtful. James R. Haynes
Editor: Cartoon Profanity” forces me to infer you mean the writers of Denmark are somewhat responsible for the violent Muslim reaction. Now stop this craziness. Where is your outrage over the countless deaths and the oppression of Eastern women? Where is your contempt for those who wage jihad from the convenient umbrella of non-state action against regulated nations? There is plenty to be angry about without your concern for forgettable artists and writers. Rob Jones
Editor: Thanks for “Cartoon Profanity. May you walk closely with our Lord Jesus Christ, for all your days here on earth! And, may you feel his presence as you go through each day! For God & Country, Larry Passage, Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ
Editor: I visited your website for the first time today and found the article by Ted Baehr on Narnia right on the mark. Besides the current event of Muslim rioting over Mohammed cartoons, another frequent topic of social conversation is the movies, and specifically whether there is anything worth paying $8.50 a head to see in a stinky multiplex theater. In particular, liberals subject everyone to a political correctness check: "Have you seen Brokeback?" they ask, watching for signs of homophobia or repressed homosexuality. I usually counter with, " Have you seen Narnia?" Best regards, Rod Wood, Red Hill, PA
Editor: I read "AIDS Risk Factors" by Michael Fumento and agree with it completely. If homosexuals are primary recipients of AIDS, it is only compassionate to inform them of the risk they undertake by their sexual practices. In the world view, I would also say that people who engage in sex without knowing if their partners have AIDS are furthering their own contamination and death. What I do to help AIDS sufferers will not change how the disease was contracted. My position is there needs to be better world wide education on the risks of AIDS, and that I support. Abstinence without verification of infection or not is a primary solution to avoiding the disease. I refuse, though, to feel guilty because a lot of people cannot control their unsafe sexual urges. James, El Paso, Texas
Editor: Just read Brian Riedl’s article on the "myth of increasing tax on the poor". I am sending it as an e-mail attachment to my friends to supply facts instead of the continuing mythical mumblings of the newscasters and lippy liberals. I will ask them to print the article for future reference. It should be sent to each of their senators and representatives, though they don't seem to be interested in facts, merely responding to public misconceptions and media manipulations. Mike Kremp
Editor: Regarding “The Pope and the Koran,” surely the Pope has it backwards. The Koran was written for a time and is demonstrably wrong so he must admit its falsity or accept it. The Bible was written by the God that is not limited by time and wrote it with the future in mind. In the Bible God says "If anyone claims to be God let him show the future." How else could the bible have predicted the stars were more numerous than the sands of the sea when the science of the times thought the earth was flat? Or that planet earth rotated on an axis and was suspended on nothing when all other religions had mythological figures holding it up? Or have prophesied Israel would become a nation once again when no other nation once gone has done so? Nowhere in the Bible is the Pope given permission to re-interpret it. God’s word is eternal. If the Pope can’t figure that one out maybe he is another false prophet. So are the past Popes wrong or is the present Pope wrong? Abu Hassan
Editor: Regarding the UAE ports matter, the Bush administration expects everything they do to be self-explanatory-- no need to communicate. In the real world EVERYTHING NEEDS EXPLANATION. What, realistically, has Cheney done to deserve an 18% approval rating, other than be a former Halliburton CEO? If you're standing on a sidewalk, handing out $1000.00 bills, you need to explain what you're doing and why there's no catch, because everything you do is subject to spin & attack. Maybe in 5 more years poor President Bush will learn this. Al, Lemon Grove
Editor: Perhaps the President has been too careful in trying to protect our nation from attack. Perhaps he should have shared the details of his surveillance program with dozens of Congressmen instead of only a few. Perhaps he should have relied on the past record of the FISA courts and shared his plan with dozens of officials and clerks there. That would have assured that the full particulars of the surveillance program would be in the hands of terrorists, who could then adjust their communications network and strike us more easily. It’s just too bad for the terrorists that we have a president who is willing to take his responsibility to defend the country seriously, even at risk to his own political advantage. Instead of complaining about surveillance, our representatives in Congress need to pass a resolution that commends the President for his efforts and encourages him to expand them. Every American should feel more secure knowing that George W. Bush is doing all he can to track down our enemies. Jeffrey Folks, Knoxville,TN
