Culture of Deceptive Words
by Stephen L Ralston
The article by former college professor Charles Callaci
presented an outstanding commentary regarding how language
has been manipulated for what looks like social engineering,
or more likely, partisan political purposes. Personally, I
see those efforts as attempts to "indoctrinate" society into
the ideals of a socialist philosophy. However, it was good
to read comments by an educator who has seen the changes the
general public has seen, and has reached
conclusions similar to those of the general public.
Illegal alien entrants sneaking into America are people who
have broken the law. That they seek a better life for them-
selves and/or their families, is understandable. However,
such a desire does not justify breaking the law. It may
affect
how those individuals are dealt with by the judicial bench,
so "mitigating circumstances" can be applied. In those
situations, the bench may elect to deal lightly and not
impose harsh sentences. Still, a light sentence does not and
can not obviate the simple fact the law was broken.
Many have insisted that those opposed to amnesties, and
those who want strong border protection, are racists. Name
calling is the typical haven those with no substantial
argument resort to when their cause is lost by facts. And on
those
occasions, we see the use of "new language" to define
situations and individuals. Especially if the new language
can
be used to vilify any who fail to accept the "new language" philosophies of the opposition.
I commend the author who has defined what the public has
seen and dealt with for many decades.
