Readers on Wal-Mart
Editor: In regard to Carl Horowitz’s article on Wal-Mart, it always seems that in our capitalist society you get slammed if you are successful. Wal-Mart is the new target for the left and the whiners. It was Microsoft just a couple of years ago and it is always open season on oil companies. The bigger you are the greater target you become. It is also always so idiotic to listen to these leftists claiming to represent mainstream America. These folks wouldn't fit into mainstream America. That requires morals and ethics and the extreme left liberals lost those a long time ago. They sold their souls for the dream of a socialist America. It is no wonder they hate any successful business. In their delusional little minds it just doesn't compute. Bud Hensley
Editor: What's not to like about Wal-Mart? They keep companies hopping. If you want to sell your products to Wal-Mart, you have to agree to their shipping plans. If you said you'll have 1,000,000 gadgets ready for pickup on December 3rd, a Wal-Mart truck will be at your plant on December 3rd to pick up your million gadgets and you better have it loaded in under two hours or under the contract you signed, you don't get paid or you at least don't get paid the full amount. So Wal-Mart is forcing manufacturers to keep their promises regarding delivery dates. Amazing! Let's let Wal-Mart take over the cable industry. Now how can we get McDonald's to demand fabulously tasty but calorie-free fries from their suppliers? Okay, dreaming again. Jullie Yeatman, Willoughby, Ohio
Editor: It seems so very strange that years ago when Sears, K-Mart, Penney's and others were ruling the roost of retail stores, there was never a word said against any of their practices. I noticed in the article about Wal-Mart the same old nonsense came up again about the landscape.....what in tarnation is this?? You would think Wal-Mart puts up tar paper shacks and tin lean-to's and runs it sewage out in the streets. The media's gripe is plain and simple. They are so jealous of the success of the company they can't stand it. Alan Dale
Editor: I am writing in favor of the good things Wal-Mart has done! It seems to be the mindset of the American people to focus blame on others so they don't have to see the blame staring them right in the face! Or at least look at the guy (or gal) at the top, they are most visible! I remember the very first purchase I made at a Wal-Mart. I was a new mother with a very sick infant son that had a head cold and we were so poor. We didn't have 2 nickels to rub together. We certainly didn't have $25.00 to $30.00 for a vaporizer for my son. My sister asked me to go to the new Wal-Mart with her and I found a God-send, a vaporizer for $9.99. I was elated and have been an avid Wal-Mart shopper since. It has been my experience that Wal-Mart has added to my personal wealth since I am able to keep a great deal more of my money for other expenditures. I also have a family member who is a Wal-Mart employee. He has been with Wal-Mart for almost 20 years. I think he is a stockman or part of the maintenance crew. The insurance Wal-Mart has provided has enabled him to have a total shoulder replacement as well as both knees replaced. He is very pleased with the coverage he receives through the insurance Wal-Mart offers. I do wish everything available in every American store were made and developed by American's but we live in a global society and to expect to never go outside our borders for supplies we use is unrealistic. I find it a bit two-faced to blame Wal-Mart for something every major chain in this country also participates in. Camille Rodgers, North Carolina
Editor: As regards your piece on Wal-Mart, I believe a key issue was omitted. While I certainly am not Wal-Mart phobic, I believe that you should have included the fact that some 70% of Wal-Mart merchandise is Chinese in origin and you should have made some statement to the effect that this constitutes material support for a country that has already threatened to nuke our west coast.
