Editor: Your article on the unions and the Department of Homeland Security raises one of the most important issues of the day. As a former civil service worker, president of one AFGE local, treasurer of another, and for a short time a private sector union organizer, I know how the system works. I came to my senses in 1960 and resigned from Federal civil service. The Federal Civil Service regulations, which for the most part are copied by almost all state and local governments, have created an elite society that destroys every effort to change. The Federal Unions and their counterparts have an interlocking self interest that supports their goals. Attempt to close a military base, block pork spending, close an obsolete VA facility and the unions at every level draw their battle line. The whole system of budget development and employee pay grade is stubbornly directed at big and bigger government, ever increasing budgets. The way the system is structured each employee is encouraged in his/her self interest to inflate their position description, to seek additional funding, to adhere to obsolete systems. In a recent casual conversation with a manager of an EPA department I asked had he ever said his department needed less money. He looked astounded, and asked if I thought he was crazy. He went on to say that it is still the same old same old I remembered. Ask for 10-20% increase every year knowing it will be cut. About July spring into action, spend every cent left before end of fiscal year. They know if they don't spend it, their budget will be cut. Any private business would go bankrupt. In fact some have. Someway, somehow the country needs to be made aware of this. Look at what happened in California. Unions spent millions and voted as a block to defeat reform. George W. Farrell
Editor: Thank you so much for your well thought out article, “Judge Runs Homeland Security”. You prove what most Americans believe, that Homeland Security is another bureaucratic, inept, Federal fiasco. The Majority in Congress is spineless and lets its Minority Democrat counterparts rule the day as usual. Unions are socialist/communist in structure and that is why they meld well with the Democrats. This country has lost its way since Ronald Reagan was President. 9/11 temporarily gave Americans their sanity back, but sadly the liberal media and Hollywood have eroded patriotism once again. Sadly, the Democrats have secularized society and we are headed to be just another socialist country on the world stage. Debbie Conard, Cape Coral FL
Editor: You need to take your Judge Runs Homeland Security article further and develop & propagate a resolution to Congress demanding immediate action to remove domination of this federal judge who is superseding the civil operation of FEMA. This will restore management by duly elected &/or appointed officials. Thank you. Robert E. Hogan, Christian County, State of Missouri
Editor: A better question is what are the unions doing in national and homeland security at all? They are everywhere they do not belong. De Judge
Editor: Excellent piece by you on the Department of Homeland Security personnel situation. An ex government personnel officer
Editor: I definitely support your article 100% on the problems at the Department of Homeland Security and pray something can be done about it. The only thing the government hasn’t screwed up yet is a screw-up. Everything they touch is messed up. Chuck Woodings
Editor: An organization called J.A.I.L. is gaining momentum in South Dakota where judges will be held accountable by allowing them to be sued if a Grand Jury composed of citizens OKs the deal. This would be a giant step to secure liberty and justice for all. Judges are running amok destroying our morals, traditions, heritage and security in America. M. Tracy
Editor: Unmasking Political Correctness by William Lind is one of the most important reads in recent history. I hope and pray that it wakes a few of us up and that something positive comes of this profound lesson: They Are Organized and out to get us!!!! We must fight back!!!! God Bless Your Organization, Hal Grisham
Editor: Bravo!!!! America needs more of such exposes like the one on Political Correctness. I felt from the beginning that Political Correctness was a blatant attack on my free speech. One cannot legislate morality. And when I ask people to define "Communism", I get some sort of wishy washy answer. That is because people do not know the works of Karl Marx. These days we are fortunate if they know who Stalin was. What does perturb me is that the whole political thing is being staged like a foot ball match - REDS vs BLUES aka elephants vs donkeys. If one looks closely, both are pushing in the same direction albeit the elephants more slowly. It is all illusion because the same powers motivate both and the object is to destroy the AMERICA our Vets died to preserve. Aija-Maria Accatino
Editor: Unmasking Political Correctness is one of the best articles I've ever read. Please keep up the good work! Phil McGrew, Topeka, Kansas
Editor: I believe this is the first time I've had the pleasure of your website. I am in total agreement with Tom Pauken's criticism of the present administration spending. It is shameful. It is heresy to identify this kind of government as "conservative." The test would be who in the LEFT disagreed? The GOP needs to fill the administration ranks with true conservatives. Having said that, where did Karl Rove fit in with these decisions prior to the 04 elections? Is he as born again spender now? Too much loyal to a failed administrator or cabinet officer is as bad as too little loyalty. We need a new conservative base running the Administration. Connecticut Reader.
Editor: Regarding David Keene’s article on the new interest in cutting spending in Congress, what we still need- desperately- is to cut the pork out of some things especially highway bill and that Alaskan bridge, which is an absolute scandal !!!! Frances Shannon
Editor: We commend the senators for finally making an attempt at fiscal responsibility. We put them in office to support our President and to fight for those items set out in the Constitution for which our tax dollars should be spent. Most important to us is to back our President in military spending, the war on terror and homeland security. Our military and our first line defenders need and should have state of the art equipment. We believe the other issue that needs to be addressed immediately is confirming the President's choice of Supreme Court justice. We are totally fed up with the delays and out and out cowardice demonstrated by our representatives in Washington. Our President needs their support NOW. Jim and Mary Blanchford, St. Louis, Missouri
Editor: I just read an AP story about how Republican leaders dropped the ANWAR and off shore drilling provisions of the budget reduction bill to appease Democrats and moderate Republicans. I just e-mailed the RNC and told them no amount of good will would overcome such action by those we elected to take a stand. They always give in to the environmentalist, Democrats and the NE liberal infested media forgetting about who put them there. We don't stand a chance no matter how we vote or how hard we work for the issues that matter we get shafted every time. It knocks the WIND out of our SAILS. Democrats held their position for their supporters, environmentalists, women rights, the protected class, abortions rights, trial lawyers and kooks. Grandmother Johnson, Mississippi [Republican]
Editor: Regarding your earlier editorial on the Iraqi vote spelling partition, perhaps "Balkanizing" Iraq might not be such a bad idea if the three ethnic regions cannot "just get along". The real "bad actors" in Iraq do seem to be the Sunni. "Sunni-land" without the necessary oil revenues to acquire WMD, and without the population to man a vast military would not have the same regional impact as Saddam's Iraq. Oil rich Kudistan and Shitiestan could be granted "favored Nation" trade and mutual defense treaties with the U.S. They could even form a loose federation with one another along the lines of the Swiss Cantons. Of course, they would be both subject to external terrorist attacks, but that not be the "insurgency" that exists in a united(?) Iraq. In time with their oil revenues financing it both should have a vibrant economy and a well-off, peaceful population. As for Sunni-land, well seeing their love for authoritarian governance the might overtime become more like Jordan or a poor Saudi Arabia, with some sort of tribal monarchy in charge. The real trick, it seems to me, would be keeping Turkey and Saudi Arabia happy with such a division, and also keeping Shiitestan from too close ties with radical mullahs in Iran. Regards, Neal J. Lang, Boca Raton, FL
