Editor: Thank you for your excellent article on nonconformity! I am presently writing a book about federal education policy, and the first chapter deals extensively with the disastrous assimilation campaign that has driven public education since colonial days. I fear the federalization of schooling occurring right now will be the final triumph of forced conformity. Your article puts what has occurred in education in perfect social and historical context. With best regards, Neal P. McCluskey, Policy Analyst, Center for Educational Freedom, Cato Institute

Editor: Your piece on "In Praise of Nonconformity" is an absolutely brilliant analysis of the social problems we face today--temperate, broadly based and profound. I had been thinking of writing an article myself about the trinity as the basis of a free society, one that is dynamic, balanced, and based on love. But you beat me to it. James P. Lucier

Editor: Superb piece on "In Praise of Nonconformity! Why not have a link that says "send this article to a friend"? Dan Goorevitch [Good idea. We will look into it, Ed]

Editor: You are correct, conformity is the bugaboo of little minds. Free people think for themselves. We should share our thoughts and hope to get wise people to listen and accept what is best for all of us. Walking in lockstep is what weak minds must do. Sheep must wait to be led and not deviate from the ruler. When I listen to Democrats repeat word for word what their "best" minds have decreed will be the talking points for each day, I am reminded how many "little" minds comprise their membership. Shouting and flailing one's arms does not indicate truth is being spoken. Quite the opposite is true -- liars must always attempt to shout down the truth. Christine C. Outlaw, Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Editor: As Sen. Jon Ky; said in his article, these Judges deserve to be put on the floor of the Senate for an up or down vote by the full Senate and not held up by the Democrats on the committee by not showing up so that the committee doesn't have a quorum. These should be removed from the Senate no matter what state they are from! Dwane Stull, Newton Falls, Ohio

Editor: Daniel Pipes’ "What Does Islam Teach" is a good article. I hope word gets out of these findings. It needs to be brought to the attention of people who could stop the message of hatred, on both sides. The information also needs to be given in a way, so as not to point fingers and look as if we are starting a fight. We need to show the world first how Christians believe-- that we are all children of God and we must all do our best for God and the entire World (not just our neighbor as the good Samaritan shows) We need to cite examples of our good works, continue with them and continue striving for peace throughout the world. Of course we should always remember Reagan, "Trust but Verify." Perhaps we need to take the first step of kindness and hope it is returned. Whether or not it is, we still need to work at this. It is our Christian duty. A concerned, conservative Virginian

Editor: Re: "The Irony of Social Security" by Daniel Allott, I would like to point out a couple things he did not discuss in his article: Social Security is an unconstitutional program, and was designed as a huge "Pyramid Club" Program which was doomed to failure from day one of its inception. With that in mind, the only practical solution is to pay participants their equity and disband the program. Sincerely, Thomas Kirby

Editor: Nathan Tabor's article on the Visa Lottery is excellent. This article should be in every newspaper across this country! We are fighting a losing battle when it comes to immigration - legal and illegal! Brenda Schmale

Editor: In answer to Steve Auvil’s piece, "What Is Going On?", the answer is that Bush has become obsessed with his Democracy crusade. Bush is also a lame duck president and the whole Republican machinery in the Senate and to a degree in the House is suffering from battle fatigue. Republicans generally do not have the same fighting spirit as the Democrats. Tim Sullivan

Editor: I was happy to read about your dinner and that conservatives are sticking together. Tom DeLay has not done anything wrong. The Democrats and their media cheerleaders have succeeded in the past as "moderate" Republicans ran away from conservatives when they came under attack. It's time to put an end to the string of liberal successes due to conservative pusillanimity. Brian Lynch
