On "Europe Are You Nuts?"
Editor: Thank you for Herbert Meyer's energetic
article, "Europe Are You Nuts." I am a French student
who keeps dreaming of France experiencing a conservative revolution.
I totally agree with your arguments about the roots
of American success and European "wilful blindness". I
myself have learned much about conservative principles and "political
technology" thanks to the Leadership Institute, the Young America's
Foundation, and the Intercollegiate Studies Institute when I was
in Washington. My friends and I are active in Paris and I had the
opportunity to organize 87, 000 persons to demonstrate against the
strikes in Paris on June the 15th, 2003. We recently founded IFP
(http://www.atlasusa.org/directory/institute_profile.php?refer=directory&org_id=643
), an Institute aimed at identifying and training tomorrow's conservative
leaders (doesn't it ring a bell?). I am confident that French (genuine)
conservatives and Americans like you will work together in the future
for the defence of liberty. Yours sincerely, Jean Martinez, Paris,
France
Editor: It is sad for Europe, but you are
100% right! Herbert Meyer’s article is very good, because
he tells them the truth without using the same nasty words our journalists
and analysts would use against the US. Thank you. I just send it
to a hundred French friends who belong often to the silent minority
who need to read that to move their bottoms ! For the other part
of the population, I don't see anything that can move them until
they have to face Islam directly. Almost nothing had been said about
Van Gogh. They prefer to focus on the nasty and racist young Corsican
who reacts against the Islamisation of their country. We have weak
leaders, weak journalists. Do we deserve that in France? I truly
think, the French people are mostly sleeping and will, like often,
wake up at the end (See Joane of Arc). I just hope we are still
the eldest daughter of the Church, that it won't be too late and
that our American fellows will accept to give a little help if needed
(I would understand if you hesitate, we would have deserved it!)...Thank
you and congratulations for showing last November that all the West
wasn't dead! Parris, France
Editor: BRAVO! I hope Herbert Meyer's article
finds its way into every newspaper throughout the world!! Jeffrey

Editor: Regarding Herbert E. Meyers' column
"Europe Are You Nuts?": that was one of the most refreshing
and concise editorials I have had the pleasure to read this year;
for several years, actually. Thank you for including it on your
on-line magazine website. Born just a few years after the end of
World War II, I don't have to look back very far to recall a Europe
that was reeling from the tragedies resulting from the "progressive
thinking" of a certain energetic German leader who promised
his followers a new world order. Generations of "enlightened"
European citizens have sneered at the way Americans live, and that
isn't going to change anytime soon. The United States has bailed
the continent out of two world wars and stood on guard throughout
46 years of the Cold War. How soon we forget. Marshall Spencer,
Duck River, TN.
Editor: Many thanks for the illuminating article
by Herbert Meyer on the incredible arrogance that has blanketed
'our once was' allies. Many Europeans, on the individual level,
are sound folk. It is on the group level, with their hysterical attack
on our nation, that causes me to shake my head in disbelief. How
can they subscribe to such a gross lie? I've defined stupid as an
inseparable alloy of arrogance and ignorance. Europe presents a
prime example of that. Chad Breaux
Editor: This piece by Herbert Meyer is awesome.
He says it all in a few short paragraphs. I cannot wait to see his
DVD. Jim Robinson
Editor: Magnificent article by Herbert Meyer.
Thank you! How long we stay this way may be open to debate. You've
put your finger right smack on the problem of world philosophies
and perspectives. Maybe Europe isn't nuts--but they do a superb
impression of it. Keep in mind that there are a fair number of Americans
who are quite certain that the Europeans are right and true patriotism
stems from an attitude that sounds an awful lot like "Hate
America first." Thanks for a message that Europe (and Americans)
don't hear enough. Paul H. Prindle, Green Bay, WI
Editor: In Sweden, bestiality is legal, and
ministers are arrested for quoting passages from the Bible that
offend homosexuals. In Holland, drug addiction is legal and state
subsidized, prostitution and euthanasia are legal, the age of consent
is 12, and the army is unionized. The mayor of Rotterdam declared
that "Thou shalt not kill" is a hateful, racist slur offensive
to Muslims after the public butchering of the artist Theo van Gogh
by an Islamist. Pornography, both 'straight' and gay, is broadcast
during prime time in several European countries. Now, what was the
point of your question again? Sincerely, Daryl Suzukawa
Editor: I wish to thank Herbert Meyer so much for this blunt and concise
report. It can hit one between the eyes, if one can "see".
Sadly, it most likely won't be recognized by those who criticize the
U.S. I would like to send it to some students in Europe that I've
had stay at my house in the past. Two years ago, a London surgeon
visiting the Twin Cities hospitals told me at breakfast that in England
and Europe generally, Bush was being laughed at by their Government
and peoples everywhere (as if, I /we should be embarrassed). I responded
(not quite like Mr. Meyer) that we know it and we don't care...so.
What if Clinton is a Rhodes scholar, he's a pathological liar!"
They just don't get it, is the way I felt, and no amount of telling
them so seems to make any dents. There is an excellent article by
Mark Shea published in the Nov 14-20, 2004 National Catholic Register
(editor@ncregister.com) titled, "Intellectual Pride Makes You
Stupid". It is a follow up as to what's wrong with their kind
of thinking/behavior, and well worth reading. I enjoyed your article.
Thank you. We'll have to use new means to reach this type of people,
with what I am not sure, as the issue will probably get worse. I am
wondering, though, if the media and spokespeople for Europe are not
representative of the "commonfolk", as is the case here
in U.S.A. From what I gather, it is pretty commonplace everywhere
among Europeans to hate America. The kudos to Americans for all our
advances, discoveries, and contributions really must go to God, which
religion also came from Europe. Europe has lost its Christian roots,
and even those European Christians whom I met personally did not seem
to understand this. Judy Novotny
Editor: I thoroughly enjoyed Herbert Meyer's article. It never ceases
to amaze and amuse me how judgmental the Europeans can be when it
comes to criticizing not only our President but our economy and our
values. Like it or not, Americans are predominantly Christian with
good conservative moral and family values. Though the liberals would
like to think otherwise, ours is the greatest country on earth with
opportunity for all who wish to pursue it. The Europeans need to ask
themselves, if America is such a terrible place and its people so
stupid, why are so many people constantly clamoring to get across
our borders from nations around the globe? Sincerely, Diana Orrock
Editor: I totally agree with Herbert Meyer.
I am German. I have been here since 1968. And I will not nor would
I go back to live in Germany. It is a beautiful country to visit
and vacation in, but living there is another story entirely. Even
in the small town where I was born, near the Black Forest, the population
has been saturated with legal and illegal immigrants from the Middle
East. My Aunt told me to be careful how I treat them, because they
will immediately scream racism to the authorities. This is what
the country has come to since I have left. I feel that Islamic extremists
are literally trying it's best to take over the world, by having
more and more infiltration visited upon just about every country
that is upon the planet! That is why the President is right in going
after terrorism. It has to be done in order to save us from foreign
dictatorship in the far and maybe even near future. Ingrid Williams,
Roseville, Michigan
