In Iraq
by C.E. and M.C. Lyons
We understand that progress is being made in restoring
a functioning society in war-torn Iraq. But one has to look diligently
to find such information in the Big Media--and in the "little
media" that takes most of its news cues from the The New York
Times and its ilk.
Unfortunately,
the influence of the liberal media is having a significant negative
effect on many Americans who supported President George Bush three
years ago. Now, the perceived lack of progress is changing the mind
sets of middle-class Americans, Republican voters, friends, co-workers,
and even family members.
There must be an end-in-sight to the drumbeat of
daily deaths of young Americans in Iraq. Meanwhile, if more troops
are necessary to produce military victories leading up to a withdrawal
date, send them. Let us leave Iraq in December 2005.
The White House has spoken many months ago of withdrawing
significant numbers of U.S. troops from Germany and Korea. Do it.
Now. The present stalemate is unacceptable. Leave democracy for
the future.
Give
heart to the American people. A date-certain for withdrawal of American
troops will give heart and some muscle, too, to majority of the
Iraqi people who support us, Our announced plans to leave Iraq will
show that the insurgents are not just America haters, they are Sadaam
remnants fighting to to re-impose his rule.
