Comments on Buchanan
Editor:
Donald Devine's editorial on Pat Buchanan's latest book is entirely
on target. Having carefully read the book, I agree with all the
points made, particularly about the myth of impoverished union members
and the supposed economic value of erecting tariff walls. Like Don,
I am impressed by Pat's criticism of a neoconservative foreign policy
and his awareness of the loss of conservative substance in the current
establishment Right. What is more of a problem in Pat's analysis
is the proposed economic remedy. Paul Gottfried

Excellent editorial on Pat Buchanan. You have become one of my favorite
writers. Your articles reflect wisdom that is not so common these
days. I am working on a booklet called "Where the Labor Movement
Went Wrong." In the end it makes the case for and calls for
abolishing public sector unionism all together. I even illustrate
(building on studies others have conducted) how unions in the end
don't produce higher take home pay, because where they are strong
they elect liberal Democrats who raise taxes on workers, stealing
for the government the money the unions won at the bargaining table.
Keep up the good work. You really do excellent work! Bill Sizemore
Editor: Pat is
very much right about the Republican led Congress being big spenders,
and most conservatives in "Fly over country" would agree
with him. I would agree with him on Bill Kristol ( and his friend
Sen. John McCain ), but disagree with Pat about the war on terrorism.

I think Pat Buchanan is right on target. The Bush Admin has abandoned
all conservative principles, and dragged the D.C. Republicans far
to the left: they're a dangerous mix of Woodrow Wilson on foreign
policy (arrogant elitism), and Lyndon Johnson on domestic policy
(ill-considered programs, irresponsible & out of control spending,
run-ups of huge debts). In addition, they're pandering to homosexuals,
minority racists, and other leftist groups on social policy.-Brian

Who cares what Buchanan wants! He's not relevant, Robert Taylor,

Thanks for the continuing insights between and among those competing
to be
"conservative." I'm not a Buchanan fan, and his interest
in trying to become a leader of "conservatives" seems
misplaced. He left us years ago and appears to have not returned
to embrace our fundamental tenets. Keep up the good work. Jason
