I wanted you to know about a significant victory that has escaped
the attention of the media at the Republican National Convention It
reads:
"We affirm traditional military culture, and we
affirm that homosexuality is incompatible with military service.
The Republican Party created the all-volunteer force and opposes
reinstitution of the draft, whether directly or through compulsory
national service. We support the advancement of women in the military,
support their exemption from ground combat units, and support the
implementation of the recommendations of the Kassebaum Commission,
which unanimously recommended that co-ed basic training be ended.
We support sound priorities in the making of personnel policies,
and candid analysis of the consequences of unprecedented social
changes in the military."
This unequivocal
statement, which is virtually identical to platform language approved
at the 2000 National Convention in Philadelphia, is also similar
to recommendations put forth last year in the Americans for the
Military Petition to President George W. Bush. That petition, which
the Center for Military Readiness launched with ACU's support and
that of 14 other major organizations, respectfully asked President
Bush to direct the Pentagon to review and revise problematic social
policies in the military. The Republicans statement regarding homosexuals
in the military is also important, especially in view of Sen. John
Kerry's extreme views on that issue that we have analyzed in the
latest edition of CMR Notes. Elaine Donnelly President, Center For
Military Readiness

In 19 years of law enforcement, I have never arrested a person committing
a crime who was in 'legal' possession of a firearm. All the suspects
I've arrested were in 'illegal' possession of a firearm. The anti-gun
police chiefs/Sheriffs are politicizing this myth, just to promote
themselves. They are using the No Hollywood shootout, as their example
as to why these weapons must be banned. Well, there was already
an existing law that said those two criminals at the BofA shootout
could not possess these weapons. As a matter of fact, one of them
was an 'illegal' alien from Russia. He wasn't even legal to begin
with, let alone his gun. That is more proof that gun control does
not work. As a matter of fact, it does to America exactly what Hitler
did to Germany. It takes away from the good, and gives the guns
to the bad. The criminals will always break the law and illegally
carry guns. Chaplain Bill Rhetts

Although I am all for Big Government getting out of my life, your
article neglected to mention that this won't help people like my
husband and I. We have Blue Cross and BS (yes BS) insurance, and
when we pay cash to the doctor and WE file for the reimbursement,
the insurance company NEVER pays the same discount as we get at
other doctors who do file for us. They can get away with it, because
what are we to do? Write letters? Cry? Hold them at gunpoint? Ha!
There is nothing we can do except cash the paltry check that they
FINALLY get around to sending. So, if you make the insurance companies
pay exactly what they should each and everytime, I'm all for your
cash and carry. Laura Gibson

How do we find out the names, with pictures, of the thirteen traitorous
congressmen who supported the Alcee Hastings fiasco? It would certainly
be nice to know if any of them are from my area, so I can do all
in my power to get rid of them and put in some honest people to
represent their districts. Henry C. Gillin

Spirit-crushing foolishness from my candidate, John Kerry: the nation
is trying to figure out how to fight global terrorism and he's talking
about having "not just a Department of Health and Human Services,
but a Department of Wellness." How about a Department of F***ing
Perspective? If Bush is smart he'll be ridiculing Kerry about this
for the rest of the month. Thanks, Iowa! Micky Kaus

Congratulation to Congressman Jeff Flake and Congressman Trent Franks
on their victories in Tuesday's Arizona Republican primary. Both
men faced spirited challenges, and Congressmen Flake and Franks
waged successful campaigns based on the strong conservative principles
that have defined their service in the U.S. House of Representatives.

I think many of us would like to see a push for the abolishment
of all anti-Constitutional laws in this country. Excellent examples
would be McCain-Feingold and the Brady Bill (1st and 2nd Amendments).
The "conservatives" among us would be very happy to see
this. Anything that would state emphatically that the Constitution
says what it means versus the "living document" garbage
that is considered the fare of the day would be welcome as well.
I think we would also be well served to ensure that GOD plays a
strong part in the future of our country by resolving to follow
His precepts and laws before we assert man's or his "interpretations"
thereof. We would have no laws were it not for God's law first.
(I'd like to see the 10 Commandments moved from Alabama to a place
in D.C. myself, say Congress?) Thank you, Bill Kavanaugh Durham,

It seems as if the ACU is, like all politicians, afraid to allow
too much voice to those of us who want an end to illegal immigration
and the repatriation (deportation) of illegals in this country to
their country of origin. One two line article in the comments section
is almost an act of cowardice.
Illegal immigration is one of the most important, if not the most
important, issues facing our nation today. Since the politicians
seem intent to giving our nation away to dictatorial oligarchies
such as Mexico, perhaps it is time for the vast majority of the
citizens of our nation to rise up and take the country back from
the politicians who only care about lining their pockets. If our
nation continues to be overrun by the illegal immigrants, most who
are welfare clients, we will fast be bankrupt and will have to stop
giving welfare to the world as we do. Who will guard the portals
of freedom when this day comes? Ray Madden
